Creative Struggles

Doing something "creative" has always been romanticized from the time of the Renaissance in ways that are just not true.

"Creative" people, to the outside, seem to be people who repeatedly just get hit (or enlightened or whatever) by ideas, but that's just not true. Its honestly sometimes extremely frustrating.

Today, I'll give you an update on the problems I'm facing with my projects.

Blog

Let's start off with this blog.

The thing is, I always write the post 30 minutes before posting it, even though I only post once a week. I always end up procrastinating, and in the end I never really end up posting anything. That's why there was nothing posted in the last month or so.

Its really frustrating, because I really want to write, but I don't even have any idea of what to write about; and I can't seem to make the time to do it.

YouTube

With my YouTube channel, I'm in a huge creative block.

I just have no idea what to make a video about, and I haven't uploaded in 3 weeks. I had gotten an idea and edited the video, but it just wasn't exporting (I think one of the files corrupted).

I've never really thought that video editing applications could be frustrating (even though everyone says they are), but I experienced that frustration first-hand a few days ago. It just makes you want to quit, honestly.

I want to become better at making videos, but the stuff I want to make are usually un-make-able because of some factors that are out of my control.

Extreme frustration.

Music

I just released a new single, and I'm really proud of it. Right after that, I got a great creative concept for an EP, and I was thrilled.

I was going to start working on my next song. I got a chord progression, a vague conceptual idea, and somewhat of a drum beat going in my head.

But I never started building on that. I never made it a loop, I never even put it in the software. Its just... sitting there.

I can make something, but I have absolutely no inspired sound or rhythm to make the fundamental chord progression or beat something better or cooler.

Ideally, people should do creative work on a schedule, whether they get inspiration or not; and I think this blog post is a good start to get back to doing that.

But its really frustrating.

Hopefully all of this will become less frustrating once I just start doing it.

A short post, but an important one; this one.

Thanks for reading.
