Making music and business

Why does one make music?
I think everyone makes music for one reason and one reason only: they love music.
As a job, music isn’t exactly the most stable one in the world; most people who want to do music don’t “make it” to the extent that their income is enough to sustain themselves full time. People attempting to become a musician just for the money (or the fame) are unlikely to have the mental willpower to push through times of failure.

Why did I think about it?
I think the main reason I started thinking about this is because of Blackpink. At the moment, it feels like Blackpink’s music is very stagnant sonically and they music they make has not evolved over the many years they’ve been in the industry. All their singles sound pretty similar.
At the moment, it feels like Blackpink is making music just to cater to the audience of Blackpink fans who like the kind of stuff they’ve always made. I don’t entirely know if this is a YG decision (Blackpink’s record label, for those unaware) or not, though.
An artist I feel hasn’t fallen into this trap, though, is Taylor Swift. To me, Taylor’s music has evolved a lot since the beginning, and it feels like every album’s genre is different. It feels like she’s not afraid to experiment with her music.
To conclude, I think most of the fun of making music is the creative fulfilment that you get from making the music. If you don’t get fulfilment from making music (or a specific kind of music), it stops becoming fun (I think).
